  • At the end of Day One of the Global Heavy Leaders Summit, join us for a very special networking dinner presented by BP Australia – Melbourne’s first-ever Transport Legends Night.

Celebrate two of Australia’s most influential transport industry identities, Ian Cootes AM and Peter Gunn AM, and be inspired by the entrepreneurial and leadership lessons they learned during their long and coveted careers.

Don't miss the opportunity to see two industry game changers get together on stage to talk about their high-profile careers in the trucking industry, reflect on game-changing moments in the history of the trade and share valuable insights on the challenges we face today.

    Ian Cootes AM

A recently named Member of the Order of Australia, Melbourne entrepreneur and philanthropist Ian Cootes founded Cootes Haulage in the 1960s and grew it from a single truck operation into one of the most innovative transport businesses in Australia – setting a new standard for presentation and professionalism in the industry.

As Director of the Australian Road Research Board in the 1990s, he went on to become a high-profile advocate for raising safety and efficiency standards in dangerous goods transport and was later inducted into the National Road Transport Hall of Fame for his pioneering work in the field.

    Peter Gunn AM

BRW Rich List member and fellow Member of the Order of Australia, Peter Gunn, started in the industry while studying commerce at the University of Melbourne, driving a truck part-time before setting up his own transport services business, Cubico, where he single-handedly revolutionised the cubic freight market and introduced technologies and processes that are still in use today.

After three decades of strong growth, he then merged his business with the logistics division of Mayne Nickless in 1999 to set up powerful Melbourne investment firm, PGA Group, which is still heavily involved in the property and investment market today.

The Transport Legends Night is part of the second Global Heavy Vehicle Leaders Summit in Melbourne and will take place in the Courtyard, a soaring atrium space within the State Library of Victoria.

Tickets are only available for Summit attendees and strictly limited.
